Holness Popular in West St Mary While Negative Sentiment Grows Around Montague

Residents of Western St. Mary say they believe Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has been working hard and deserves a chance to continue.

This is despite them expressing largely negative sentiments about their sitting Member of Parliament Robert Montague.

Our news centre spent more than six hours in the constituency on Wednesday.

Daina Davy has more in this report.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness arrived at Oracabessa High School in West St. Mary sometime after 9 Wednesday night.

He had spent the better part of the day touring the constituency with the Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP, embattled standard-bearer, Robert Montague.

The latest Nationwide/Bluedot polls indicate Montague faces an uphill climb, trailing the People’s National Party’s Omar Woodbine by 19 points.

But it doesn’t appear Holness is facing that challenge. One resident says the prime minister has been modelling the best attributes of previous Jamaican leaders.

Another resident says she’s very pleased with the HEART/NSTA Trust initiatives introduced by the prime minister.

Western St. Mary is a classic weathervane seat. It has tended to vote for the winning party. It’s a seat the JLP and Holness want to hold on to.

But another resident who spoke to our news centre believes Dr. Holness has squandered a lot of goodwill with voters.
