Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness looks at the street scene in Spanish Town while travelling on one of the 93 new buses handed over to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) at the Portmore bus depo in St. Catherine on Wednesday (July 16).

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says Jamaica’s democracy is stuck in a destructive cycle where citizens reject policies and progress simply because they do not support the party proposing them.

He was speaking at the handing over ceremony of 93 buses at the Portmore, St. Catherine depot of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company on Wednesday.

Dr. Holness, who is also leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, JPL, was referring to the continued opposition by the People’s National Party, PNP, and some Jamaicans to the rollout of the government’s rural school bus programme.

The PNP has also criticised the government for trying to mask its failures in office through a surge in groundbreaking ceremonies for major projects during an election year.

Dr. Holness dismissed the heightened activities as mere coincidence.
