Today marks Oscar Mira’s first day in office, and already he has expressed his desire for a new Chief Executive Officer. This move would see Sharole Carr-Saldivar given the boot as the ministry’s CEO. Love News has received unconfirmed reports that Deputy Police Commissioner Bart Jones may be a front runner for the CEO position. As Mira takes on the policing portfolio head-on, he explained to Love News that he will be meeting with the Police Commissioner, Dr. Richard Rosado, in the coming days. That meeting would determine the way forward in Mira’s plan for a police commissioner.

Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs and Enterprise: “The CEO is not my appointment, that’s Prime Minister’s appointment. We are in discussions of a new CEO. We are in discussions for a new CEO at the ministry. I do have a meeting this afternoon to further discuss the CEO for the ministry. As far as the Commissioner of Police is concerned I have not worked directly with him. I do have a meeting with him where he is going to present to me his strategy to fighting crime in Belize and I want to discuss that with him before we can decide on anything else. I believe that the commissioner is a very well-educated and rounded police officer. I want to give him that benefit. And I want to sit down with him and let him show me and present to me what his strategy is in fighting crime in the country. So that is pending for this week.”
CEO Sharole Carr-Saldivar has been serving in that capacity since November 30, 2023.
