Honduran National Killed in Belize City Shooting

Police are investigating the murder of 43-year-old Honduran national Dennis Perdomo Guevara, who was fatally shot on Terry Lee Crawford Street in Belize City last night.  The shooting occurred at approximately six o’clock while Guevara was sitting in front of J.M. Shop. Police say he was approached by a man dressed in a dark long-sleeved shirt, long black pants and black rubber boots. The attacker’s head and face were reportedly concealed with a rag.  Investigators say the two men became involved in a struggle, during which Guevara was shot once in the chest. The gunman then escaped along an unnamed road beside the shop.

Guevara was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provided an update on the investigation.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Yesterday evening around 6:20 PM police responded to a shooting incident in the Fabers Road area of Belize City. Upon arrival information was that a male person had been shot. He was identified as Denis Guevara, 43 years of Belize City. He is a Honduran national. He was taken to the KHMH where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigation is that Guevara was in the area when he was approached by a male person who fired several shots towards his direction causing his fatal injuries. We are currently reviewing video footage and looking for suspects in regard to this murder. The information we got is that he used to purchase scrap gold and someone asked to meet him there and thereafter the person asked him for monies and thereafter he was shot.”

Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered one expended .380 shell casing, along with a blood sample. Police also reviewed surveillance footage from the area and reportedly obtained useful information./
