It’s the boost Kingston needed!

That’s how president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, JHTA, Robin Russell, is describing the economic impact of Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street concert, held on New Year’s Eve at the National Stadium.

The country recorded a surge in tourism arrivals between December 22 and December 30 last year.

Approximately 32,000 visitors arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston over the period.

Several hotels in the Corporate Area were at capacity earlier this week as Vybz Kartel’s fans flocked to be part of what was his first performance on a stage in 13 years.

The boom was felt outside Kingston amid reports that 18 private jets landed in Montego Bay, St. James in a single day.

Russell says local entertainment events have proven to be a magnet for visitors from several source markets around the world.
