Access to affordable land continues to be a major concern for residents of Ambergris Caye, but according to Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez, efforts are underway to address that demand. Perez says the government is currently in the process of distributing hundreds of parcels of land on the island, particularly in northern San Pedro, as part of a broader strategy to ensure that more Belizean families can access property ownership. Speaking with Love News, Perez explained that the initiative is primarily geared toward residents who have long called Ambergris Caye home but have struggled to secure land due to soaring real estate prices and increasing development pressures.

Andre Perez, BRS Area Representative: “Land distribution that is also a major one that I really want to, if I want to, if I want to toot my horn, I have given over 800 titles to first time landowners, the new generation, the younger generation who need. And these places are planned communities. So I do know that whenever they get their property in the next three, four, five years there’s going to be streets, light water, and sewer up north. So, and it’s a good area, it’s not swamp that we’re giving to our people, highlands there is no area there that is going to be flooding. So it’s long term. So I’m looking at the younger generation who deserve a piece of property. And the next four, five, six years, ten years from now, they’ll be able to say there’s a nice community of north. And public transportation will be coming along for those to commute to come to town.”
