Ian Ives Vows to Unite JLP in South Manchester If Selected As Standard Bearer

Ian Ives is vowing to unite the Jamaica Labour Party machinery in South Manchester, after defeating incumbent Member of Parliament, Robert Chin, in an internal election on Sunday.

Ives beat Chin by 19 points in a party workers’ vote in the constituency.

He says unity will be his top priority, as the Labourites prepare to fend off a challenge from PNP veteran, Peter Bunting.

JLP General Secretary, Dr. Horace Chang, says the Secretariat will respect the outcome of the internal election.

Ives is expected to be ratified as the party’s standard bearer by its powerful Central Executive.

There’s been no word from Robert Chin as to the way forward for him in the constituency.

Repeated calls placed to his mobile phone on Monday were not answered.

Chin wrested the traditionally safe PNP seat from Michael Stewart by almost 9-hundred votes in the September 2020 General Election.

The JLP’s victory in the seat was one of the major upsets that night.

The party is hoping to repeat the feat in this year’s General Election.
