The chief executive officer of the Investment Migration Agency (IMA), Thomas Anthony, says Grenada will be focusing on marketing the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme when it embarks upon a tour of West Africa in October this year.
Under the CBI progamme, foreign investors are granted citizenship of the country in return for making a substantial investment in the Grenada’s socio-economic development.
Anthony, who was part of the panel at the just concluded Fourth AfriCaribbean Investment and Trade Forum (ACTIF2025) discussing the topic “A showcase of Grenada’s Investment: Trade, Business and Tourism” said that Nigeria currently represents the largest demographics in Africa applying to the CBI programme.
He said that the plan is to extend it to nationals of other African countries.
“We have been exploring more African countries, more recently we were in Kenya in collaboration with the Nairobi Chamber of Commerce and at that event we have more than 100 individuals attending and we believe that we will see some fruit from that event,” said Anthony.
“We also had a private event with 42 individuals, and my understanding is that 25 per cent of those have expressed an interest in applying to the programme. We do have plan later this year for a West Africa tour in October to be more precise and to explore Ghana as a new market for the citizenship by investment programme.
“So, we trying to grow the demographic coming out of Africa, but we are also playing our part in creating that bridge between Africa, Grenada and the Caribbean at large and allowing individuals to make investments into Grenada, but also as I said earlier, protecting those investments by becoming citizens of Grenada. It doesn’t hurt that you then enhance your global mobility, your ability to travel to more than 145 countries,” Anthony said.
Data from the IMA, which was formally called the CBI Unit, shows that several Kenyans were approved as new citizens of Grenada under the CBI from the last quarter in 2024.
