The Ministry of Immigration continues to move forward with its national modernisation program, following a work session held yesterday between Director of Border Management & Immigration Services, Lawrence Thompson, and port commanders from across the country. The meeting focused on improving service delivery, strengthening coordination at all ports of entry, and advancing the Ministry’s ongoing Strategic Plan. Director Thompson briefed port leaders on the next phase of reforms, emphasizing the need for uniformity and readiness as the Ministry prepares for several operational upgrades. A key part of the session included a presentation by the Ministry’s IT Manager, who outlined upcoming digital and communication enhancements. These upgrades, now moving into the rollout phase, are expected to increase efficiency, enhance transparency, and modernize the processing of travelers entering and exiting Belize. Officials say implementation of the new technologies will begin over the coming months. The Ministry notes that this week’s meeting marks another step in building a more modern, responsive, and technology-driven immigration system that can better meet the needs of the public and the demands of a growing travel sector.
