Belizeans living in the United States continue to benefit from expanded government outreach services, with a successful Immigration Mobile Hub clinic held this past weekend in Houston, Texas. Among those helping to coordinate the effort was Kurt Cuthkelvin, a leader within the San Antonio, Texas Belizean community. Cuthkelvin explained that his involvement began after his daughters obtained Belizean naturalization, which led him to become a point of contact for Belizeans seeking guidance on immigration matters. He subsequently worked closely with immigration officials to address a growing demand among Belizeans abroad for services such as passport renewals, citizenship by descent applications and other documentation.
Cuthkelvin noted that the turnout and response from the Belizean diaspora were overwhelmingly positive, with many persons expressing relief at being able to complete important processes without having to travel to Belize. As a bonus, he said it was a reunion of sorts.
The Houston clinic forms part of a wider initiative by the Government of Belize to bring services directly to its nationals overseas. Similar immigration mobile hubs have already been hosted in New York, Los Angeles and Florida, assisting hundreds of Belizeans with documentation and nationality matters.
