InterCaribbean Airways will launch direct service between Barbados and Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, on March 6, 2026. The Turks and Caicos-based carrier confirmed via social media that Port of Spain is among five new destinations to be serviced through its Barbados hub, joining Tortola, Georgetown, Sint Maarten, and the airline’s home base in the Turks and Caicos.

The airline will operate four weekly flights to Trinidad on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays using its ATR 42-500 fleet. The airline says this will offer 20 one-stop connections within the Caribbean via Barbados.

The flights are still pending regulatory approval.

The desire to add Trinidad to its route map began years ago, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed plans. In a WhatsApp message to Guardian Media, interCaribbean Airways CEO Trevor Sadler said, “When the Covid events shut down much of the world, our wishes were tempered by the need to recover our business before looking towards new markets. During that time, we were initiating a fleet transition and mindful of having the right aircraft available to add new services.”

The fleet transition is still ongoing, the airline expects to add more regional jets to its fleet soon, but it currently operates a fleet of 11 ATR aircraft and has used them to steadily expand its presence in the Caribbean. Sadler said the 2020 creation of its southern hub in Barbados conveniently connects the southern and northern Caribbean.

Case in point, on Friday, the carrier began service between Basseterre, St Kitts, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Now Sadler is not only looking forward to beginning service to Port of Spain, but possibly to Tobago as well. “I would be remiss to not mention the desire to see our services in Tobago, as shared by many stakeholders there. We hear you and look forward to being able to serve Tobago too,” he said.
