A visibly elated Sheryl Lee Ralph took to Instagram on Tuesday to celebrate her fourth consecutive Emmy nomination for her role in Abbott Elementary.

“It never gets old to me,” Ralph shared in a Reel posted shortly after the nominations were announced. “I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who had anything to do with voting for me. [My] name is included [with] those seven outstanding actresses [for] Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, and wow, such great company. I’m very, very thankful once again, and I appreciate it. I really appreciate your consideration.”

Ralph earned the nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her portrayal of Barbara Howard, the beloved veteran teacher in the hit series created by Quinta Brunson. She won in the same category in 2022, the year of her first nomination, and was also nominated in 2023 and 2024.

This year, Ralph joins fellow nominees Liza Colón-Zayas for The Bear; Hannah Einbinder, Hacks; Kathryn Hahn, The Studio; Janelle James, Abbott Elementary; Catherine O’Hara, The Studio; and Jessica Williams, Shrinking.

Abbott Elementary itself continues to shine, earning multiple nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for Quinta Brunson, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Quinta Brunson, as Janine Teagues and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Janelle James, as Ava Coleman.

Since its debut, the mockumentary-style comedy has received 30 Emmy nominations and claimed four wins, cementing its status as one of television’s standout series.

Ralph’s Emmy nod is another milestone in a career that spans decades. From her acclaimed roles in Moesha, Instant Mom, and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, to her show-stealing presence in Abbott Elementary, Ralph continues to bring grace and depth to every performance.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Stanley Ralph, a college professor, and Ivy Ralph, a Jamaican fashion designer, Ralph was raised between Mandeville, Jamaica, and Long Island, New York. Beyond her screen work, she is a passionate health advocate and founder of The DIVA Foundation, a non-profit she launched in 1990 to honour friends lost to HIV/AIDS. The organisation uses arts-driven programming to improve health outcomes in underserved communities.

In 2022, Ralph was awarded the Order of Jamaica, the country’s fifth-highest honour, for her contributions as an actress and cultural ambassador.

The winners of the 2025 Emmy Awards will be announced on September 14.
