IT Technician Stabbed in Coney Drive Robbery Attempt; Suspect Charged

A Belize City man is recovering in the hospital after he was stabbed during an attempted robbery on Tuesday evening on Coney Drive. Police have since detained and charged a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the attack.  Investigators obtained useful information from the victim, processed the scene, and later arrested and charged Kevaun Casanova, a call center agent of Faber’s Road.  He was charged with one count of use of deadly means of harm, was cautioned, informed of his rights, and allowed to make a phone call to a family member.  The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when 30-year-old David McIntosh, an IT technician of Albert Hoy Street, had just entered his vehicle parked across from the Matalon Building. According to police, a man of dark complexion wearing a hoodie opened the driver’s door and demanded money.  McIntosh struggled with the assailant, who then pulled out a sharp silver object and stabbed him twice before fleeing the scene. Despite his injuries, McIntosh managed to drive himself to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for stab wounds and is listed in stable condition.
