J Capri and Charly Black’s Whine and Kotch Certified Silver in the U.K. More Than a Decade After Release

More than a decade later, Whine and Kotch is still winning. The Rvssian-produced dancehall anthem by J Capri and Charly Black has earned Silver certification in the United Kingdom, marking a major posthumous milestone for the late singer and adding another UK plaque to Charly Black’s expanding list of global achievements. The British Phonographic Industry confirmed the award on Friday, January 30, recognising sales and streaming equivalent to 200,000 units.

Originally released in 2012, Whine and Kotch became an instant European favourite, topping multiple iTunes Reggae charts on its arrival and cementing its place in dancehall’s modern canon. The certification places the song among a select group of hits recorded by J Capri before her untimely death in a motor vehicle accident in 2015, underlining the lasting impact of a career that spanned just five years but delivered undeniable cultural weight.

For Charly Black, the accolade adds more metal to his collection. It is his second BPI-certified single, following the global smash Gyal You A Party Animal, which went Gold in the UK in 2025 for 400,000 units and achieved US Gold status in 2019. Meanwhile, the Whine and Kotch music video, directed by Dennis Brown, continues to rack up numbers, surpassing 78 million views on YouTube and introducing new generations to the record’s infectious energy.

Despite her brief recording run, J Capri built a formidable catalogue that still resonates today, including Pull Up To Mi Bumper with Konshens, Boom and Bend Over and Reverse It. As dancehall’s global footprint keeps widening, this Silver certification stands as both a celebration of longevity and a reminder that true classics never stop moving.
