The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, JAAA, says the team was beset by injuries and late withdrawals ahead of the recent World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas.
Coming out of the two-day meet, Jamaica earned qualification for four of five relays at this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. The men’s 4×400 metres team missed out.
Three of the four teams that qualified did so in the second round.
In fact, only one Jamaican team, the men’s 4×100 metres, made it to a final. They finished last.
The performance of the Jamaican teams has drawn criticism from the public.
The JAAA says it shares the public’s consternation and will not speak specifically to the team’s performance until it receives reports from the management team, which was on the ground. This will include reports from medical and technical personnel.
According to the JAAA, it followed normal practice prior to the selection of the team, where athletes, coaches, and agents were contacted with a deadline date regarding their availability.
