Jamaica’s gold medal prospects at the Paris Olympics have been dealt a severe blow amid reports that Shericka Jackson will not run in the 100 metres.

However, speaking at a Puma media day in Paris on Wednesday, Jackson declared that she will be running in the 200 metre event.

It’s understood that the muscle problem Jackson picked up while competing in the 200 metres at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Hungary on July 9 is bothering her sufficiently to cause her to be withdrawn from the short sprint.

Media reports say Shashalee Forbes will replace Jackson in the 100 metres.

The first round of the women’s 100 metres is set to begin at 4:50 am Jamaica time on Friday.

The first round of the women’s 200 metres is due to begin on Sunday, August 4 at 3:55 am, Jamaica time.

Shericka Jackson is the fifth fastest woman all time over 100 metres and is the second fastest in history over 200 metres.

The 30-year-old was set to battle the American Shacarri Richardson for Gold in the 100 and was the firm favourite with many for Gold in the 200 metres.
