Jah Cure Faces Possible 9.5-Year Sentence as Dutch Prosecutors Pursue Harsher Penalty

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands — Reggae artist Jah Cure is facing the possibility of a longer prison sentence as Dutch prosecutors push for a nine-and-a-half-year term in their ongoing appeal over an attempted murder charge stemming from a 2021 stabbing incident in Amsterdam.

A representative from the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service confirmed to Observer Online that prosecutors have formally requested a 9.5-year prison sentence for the Jamaican singer, whose real name is Siccature Alcock, in connection with the stabbing of concert promoter Nicardo “Papa” Blake.

“In November, the Supreme Court will issue the ruling,” the representative stated, signaling that the high court’s decision will determine whether Jah Cure faces an extended sentence or maintains his current conviction.

Background of the Case

Jah Cure was originally convicted of attempted manslaughter in March 2022 and sentenced to six years in prison, but he was acquitted of the more severe charge of attempted murder. The conviction followed an altercation with Blake, who had reportedly failed to pay the artist for a scheduled performance in Amsterdam in October 2021.

The prosecution has since appealed the court’s decision, arguing that Jah Cure’s actions were deliberate and should qualify as attempted murder. In response, Jah Cure’s legal team has filed a counter-appeal, contesting the manslaughter conviction.

The ongoing legal battle has kept the Grammy-nominated singer in pre-trial detention at a correctional facility in Amsterdam, where he has remained since his arrest in 2021.

Awaiting the Supreme Court’s Ruling

The appeal proceedings before the Netherlands Court of Appeals have been ongoing for several months, with prosecutors maintaining that the severity of the attack warrants a harsher sentence.

If the Supreme Court sides with the prosecution, Jah Cure’s prison term could be extended significantly from six years to nine and a half years, underscoring the Dutch judicial system’s zero-tolerance stance toward violent offenses.

Jah Cure, known for reggae hits such as “Longing For,” “Unconditional Love,” and “True Reflection,” has had a career marked by both musical acclaim and legal troubles. His supporters continue to rally around him, citing his past reform and positive influence through music.

The final ruling from the Dutch Supreme Court is expected in November 2025, and it will determine whether the artist’s sentence is upheld or increased as prosecutors demand.
