Jamaica has been dethroned of their West Indies Women’s Super 50 title, after going down by one wicket to the Leeward Islands at Warner Park in St. Kitts this afternoon.
With one set of the games to go in the preliminary round, Jamaica are currently sitting fourth in the standings with 16 points, that’s 11 behind leaders Trinidad and Tobago and 10 behind second place Guyana.
Barbados are on 24 points and the Windward Islands in fifth with 16 and the Leewards last on 12 points.
At the end of Wednesday’s final round, the top two teams will contest the final with third and fourth meeting for the third place.
It was a historic victory for the Leewards who were winning their first ever game in the regional super 50 tournament.
Jamaica batted first and posted 253 for 9 in their 50 overs.
Captain Rashada Williams 86 and Abigail Bryce 72 put on 82 for the fifth wicket which laid the foundation for the challenging total.
Williams also put on 77 for the second wicket with Jodian Morgan who weighed in with 35.
Kimberley Anthony claimed 5 for 34 while Jahzara Claxton and Amanda Edwards two each.
The Leewards responded with 257 for 9 in 49.3 overs and this was built on the back of a superb unbeaten 88 from captain Edwards with support from Anthony 37 and Edwards and Claxton 34.
Celina Whyte and Chadean Nation bagged two wickets each.
Williams says the team failed to hold onto their chances and in the end paid the price.

This was Jamaica’s third straight defeat and they face the Windward Islands on Wednesday.
