Although Jamaica will be able to console themselves with their impressive medal haul at the 2025 Goodwill Swimming Championships, the team had to settle for second behind The Bahamas in the race for the overall title.
Following three days of competition hosted at the Barbados Aquatic Centre, Jamaica finished second with a final points tally of 1,230 points.
They trailed overall champions Bahamas, 1,324, with Trinidad and Tobago rounding off the podium positions in third, 1,028.
It was a close race between Jamaica and the Bahamians, but the team donned in black, gold and green had to settle behind the defending champions.
It was, however, a major improvement for Team Jamaica, who had finished fourth last year with 798 points.
Despite missing out on the overall title, Jamaica had much to celebrate, as they topped the girls’ standings and left the competition with the most gold medals.
Jamaica finished atop the girls’ standings with 757 points, ahead of Bahamas, 663.5, and Trinidad, 468.
On the boys’ side, the team managed a fourth final placement with their tally of 325, trailing leaders Bahamas, 449.5, hosts Barbados, 381, and Trinidad, 374.
Jamaica also managed an impressive medal haul of 48 gold, 26 silver and 27 bronze medals.
It saw them topping the medal standings ahead of The Bahamas, who captured 31 gold, 40 silver and 39 bronze.
Trinidad were third on the medal table with their tally of 22 gold, 26 silver and 21 bronze.
Jamaica saw a number of impressive performances throughout the competition, as they won the boys’ 15-17 200m freestyle relay in a new champions record of 1:36.30.
The quartet of Akeem Nicely, Daniel Adelle-Jondeau, Kabuki Thomas and Nathan Wright erased the previous mark of 1:38.27 set by Trinidad in 2022.
Jamaica also set a championship record in the girls’ 11-12 200m freestyle relay when Anna Scarlett, Layla Reid, Leah-Paige Phillips and Anna-Lyssa Cooke raced to gold in a time of 1:57.71.
The performance represents one of Team Jamaica’s strongest ever showing at the Goodwill Swimming Championships as they still search for their first-ever hold on the championships’ title.
