Jamaica’s Campbell Returns to Test Cricket

Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell is set to return to test cricket for the first time since June 2022.

The 32 year old opener has been named in a West Indies 16 man squad for a three match home series against Australia, starting on June 25 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown Barbados.

Campbell who played the last of his 20 test matches in June 2022, was banned for four years in October 2022 for evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection by representatives of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission, JADCO.

Campbell’s recall came after a brilliant domestic season in which he scored three centuries.

Another Jamaican Brandon King, is also in the 16 man squad, this his first test call-up.

Guyana’s Kevlon Anderson who had a superb domestic season also gets his first test call-up.

Keacy Carty is recalled on the back of his recent One Day International form, while white ball captain Shai Hope also returns to the test fold.

Jayden Seales, Alzarrie Joseph and Shamar Joseph remain the fast bowling spearhead.

However, 21 year old Academy product Johann Layne who’s claimed 63 wickets in 17 first class games, has been brought in as reinforcement along with Anderson Phillip who recently bagged a five wicket haul against South Africa “A”.

The rest of the squad reads, Roston Chase captain, vice captain Jomel Warrican, Kraigg Brathwaite, Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach and Mikyle Louis.

The series will mark the start of the 2025-2027 ICC Test Championship Cycle.
