Jamaica’s Olympians Stage First Full Training Session in Paris

The track and field members of Jamaica’s team to the Olympic Games in Paris had their first full training session in the French capital, on Thursday.

Among those working out was two time Olympic 100 champion Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce.

Nationwide’s Wayne Walker is in Paris and was present at the training session.


The Jamaican athletes work out in batches at a facility next door to the Athlete’s Village in Saint Denis.

The most decorated female sprinter in history wearing kinesio tape around her right knee, worked out under the supervision of her coach Reynaldo Walcott.

She was engaged in a few 100m sprints as she builds into the starts of athletics in a week’s time.

Rushell Clayton, Malik James King, Rasheed Broadbell, Sasha Gay Forbes, Brian Levell, Alana Reid, Shian Salmon, Andrennett Knight and Cherokee Young were among others who reported for training.

Clayton who has two World 400m Hurdles bronze medals in her trophy cabinet, spoke to Nationwide 90 after the hour long session.

Alana Reid is attending her first Olympic Games, she’s listed as an alternate participant but is nonetheless enjoying the moment.

Reid says she’s she determined to end a challenging year in a high after experiencing one of the lowest periods in her life.

Broadbell missed out on the last Olympic games in Tokyo, is hoping to use Paris to make up for lost time.

More Jamaican athletes are continuing to arrive in Paris, less than 24 hours before the opening ceremony.
