Inspired by the devastation left behind by Hurricane Melissa, singer Aiesha transformed heartbreak into artistry with her uplifting single Jamaica Strong — and the message has clearly resonated. The song, produced by Jjwizzle, has now surpassed one million combined views across Facebook and Instagram.
“The song was released as a musical tribute to the resilience of the Jamaican people and has since become a rallying cry for hope and recovery,” Jjwizzle told Observer Online on Friday.
Set to a warm, compelling reggae rhythm, Jamaica Strong delivers powerful lyrics that speak directly to the nation’s pain, unity and determination to rebuild. Its viral rise has been fueled by widely shared videos featuring emotional scenes from storm-ravaged parishes, alongside moments of community solidarity.
For Aiesha, the milestone is deeply personal.
“Seeing Jamaica Strong reach one million views is more than a milestone; it’s a message from the world that they stand with Jamaica,” she said. “This song was born from a place of pain but also immense pride in our people’s spirit. Thank you to everyone who has listened, shared and donated. We are showing what it truly means to be ‘Jamaica Strong.’ Our strength is unbreakable.”
Jjwizzle echoed her sentiment, noting the intention behind the production.
“When we started this project, our goal was to create something that could heal and help. The music needed to reflect the weight of the moment, but also hope for the future. To see it resonate with a million people is humbling. Music is a powerful force for good — let’s keep this momentum going and continue supporting the relief efforts.”
All net proceeds from streams and sales of Jamaica Strong will go toward hurricane relief in affected communities.
Aiesha — whose real name is Aiesha Barrett — is the daughter of legendary musician and bandleader Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett. She was nominated last year for a Caribbean Music Award for Best New Artiste (Reggae) and released her debut EP Cleopatra, produced by YardStyle Entertainment.
