WESTERN BUREAU:

On Thursday night, Reggae Sumfest turned the spotlight on international artistry during its first-ever Global Fete, a celebration of global musical fusion that brought unforgettable energy to the Catherine Hall Stadium.

The night belonged to Ghanaian star Moliy, dancehall provocateur Marcy Chin, and Trinidadian artiste Yung Bredda, with the highly anticipated Global Clash DJ battle adding fire to an already explosive event.

Leading the night’s performances was Moliy, the voice behind the global number-one hit, Shake it to the Max. Dressed fabulously in a short, sexy two-piece skirt set accented by Rastafarian colours, Moliy brought both style to the stage. Her sultry gyrations and melodic Afro-fusion vocals lit up the stadium, creating a mesmerising moment for the crowd.

“This stage is legendary,” she declared. “Jamaica, thank you for the love!”

Though no stranger to Jamaican soil, this was Moliy’s first time performing at Reggae Sumfest and she made it count. Mid-perfor-mance, she invited local dancers to join her, but only two brave fans accepted. Their boldness added playful authenticity to a set that was already commanding and crowd-pleasing.

Next up was Marcy Chin, who stormed the stage in a strip club-style outfit, dripping in confidence and oozing raw dancehall power. Unfiltered and unapologetic, Chin sent the crowd into a frenzy with provocative lyrics and sharp punchlines. “I came here looking for men who know their role, and that’s to PAY,” she announced, sparking howls of laughter and wild cheers.

Marcy Chin’s theatrics were a standout feature of the night, proving that her brand of x-rated dancehall is not just performance.

Yung Bredda, the lone male among the Global Fest headliners, held his own with a high-octane set that blended Trinidad, soca, and modern dancehall. His gritty lyrics and commanding delivery brought a distinct Caribbean flavour to the night. However, lesser known to the Jamaican audience, he won fans over with confidence and originality with hits like The Greatest Bend Over.
