FOLLOWING A dominant 18-6 win over New Zealand in their final game of Pool C at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championships, Jamaica will take on Ireland today in the play-in round at the Gongcheonpo Training Centre in South Korea.

Jamaica finished second in the Pool C standings with two wins and a single defeat, just behind England, who topped the pool with a perfect record of three wins from as many games.

Hosts South Korea finished third in the pool with a record of one win and two defeats while New Zealand remain rooted at the bottom, having lost all three games.

Following an opening-day defeat to England, Jamaica bounced back by getting the better of hosts South Korea 17-7 on Saturday before dispatching debutants New Zealand yesterday.

The Jamaicans gave little grace to the New Zealand team as they started the contest with sheer attacking intent, racing to an 8-1 lead in the opening quarter.

New Zealand found their footing in the second quarter but were still second-best, with Jamaica outscoring them 5-3 to send them into half-time trailing 13-4.

With the win all but secured, Jamaica would see out the rest of the contest by taking the third and fourth quarters 3-1 and 2-1 respectively.

Stone Evans led the way for Jamaica, scoring five goals. He was supported by teammates Quincy White, four, and Grayson Bromfield, three.

By virtue of their results, Jamaica are set to face off against Ireland today in the play-in with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

Ireland enter the contest with a perfect record, having topped Pool D with three wins.

The Irish defeated Mexico, Israel, and China on their way to the play-in round and will be hoping that they can add Jamaica to their growing list of victories.

Jamaica will enter the contest with the better offensive record, having scored 46 goals compared to Ireland’s 29.

However, the Irish have been better defensively, allowing only five goals. Jamaica have conceded 27 times.

The match will be the second of four games played at the Gongcheonpo Training Centre, with Japan taking on Germany in the first game of the play-in round.

Puerto Rico will also face the Netherlands, and England will take on Mexico in the final game of the round.

Jamaica will be looking to improve on their last performance at the U20 Lacrosse Championships in 2022. Then, they were defeated 10-8 by Japan in the play-in round.
