The 2026 Centenary Central American and Caribbean, CAC, Games in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic will be historic as Jamaica will be represented in the female individual and team épée competitions by three fencers and also a female sabre fencer.

They all competed and qualified for the games recently at the 2025 Central American and Caribbean Fencing Championships in Guatemala.

Epée fencers, Caitlin Chang and Dr. Claudine Williams, who were part of the historic Barranquilla 2018 CAC Games fencing team, joined with Dr. Sharmella Martin, in displaying incredible skill and fortitude to book their place on the centenary stage.

Meanwhile, teenager, Mya Spears, secured a place in the sabre discipline with an inspiring performance.

President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, was not reserved in his praise.

Samuda says the JOA must look very seriously at modelling academies for each sport. He says this is a critical deliverable for their development agenda.
