Jamaica Will Rise Again Campaign —Creative Leaders Call for Unity and Long-Term Recovery

1 day ago 1

Kingston, Jamaica — In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025, causing damage to more than 150,000 structures and economic losses estimated at nearly one-third of national output, a new Public Service Announcement by Social Impact Media is calling for sustained recovery. The initiative brings together 14 prominent Jamaican voices from across entertainment, media, wellness and advocacy to reinforce the need for long-term national resolve.

The project was conceived to maintain public focus as the country transitions from emergency response to reconstruction. While early rebuilding efforts are under way across affected parishes, the PSA emphasises shared responsibility, consistency and collective resilience as essential to national recovery.

Shot over two days, the PSA was produced in collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer Garreth M. Daley of GDFILMS Company Ltd and international production house Phase 3 Productions.

Bissoon Production Limited, the parent company of Social Impact Media is known for purpose-driven communication, following the 2017 initiative No Violence in Love which addressed domestic violence and youth advocacy.

“We recorded over two days, and there was a genuine energy of togetherness throughout,” Executive Producer Debbie Bissoon shared with WMV. “When I reached out to these amazing individuals—many of whom were already doing work in affected parishes—they immediately said yes. We all understood that uniting our voices was necessary to keep the momentum of support alive.”

She added, “Everyone gave their time and resources. Phase 3 opened their doors without hesitation. When I shared the script with Garreth Daley, it was an immediate green light. This is what we do—leverage our strengths for social impact. And when it comes to Jamaica, we always rise to the occasion.”

Included in the PSA are a diverse cross-section of national figures, all of whom volunteered their time and resources. Participants include multi-platinum international artiste OMI; entrepreneur and digital creator Chiney K; wellness advocate Kamilia McDonald; media analyst George Davis; comedian and broadcaster Christopher Daley; sign language interpreter Toni Aikens; women’s advocate Cortia Bingham; entertainer and lecturer Ity Ellis; gospel singer Kevin Downswell; public-speaking coach Krystal Tomlinson; reggae artist Kumar; former Miss Jamaica and TV host Yendi Phillipps; television host and football coach Neville Bell; and Bissoon herself.

Director Garreth M. Daley of GDFILMS echoed that sentiment, noting that the objective was emotional connection. “Our goal was to create something that truly resonates. This PSA calls on the resilience of the Jamaican people as we move forward together.”

The PSA will circulate widely—locally and across the Jamaican diaspora—serving as a reminder that recovery is a shared journey. As the message declares with conviction: Together, Jamaica will rise again.
