Jamaica Women Make Winning Start to Regional Cricket Competition

Jamaica made a winning start to the defense of their regional women’s CG United Super 50 title with a 51 run victory over Trinidad and Tobago at Warner Park in Basseterre today.

Set 224 to win the Trinis were bowled out for 172 in 47 overs as Vanessa Watts claimed 3 for 34.

Steffie Soogrim led the batting for Trinidad with 34 while Djenaba Joseph weighed in 32.

Earlier Jamaica elected to bat and were bowled out for 223 with one ball remaining. Captain Rashada Williams cracked 51, Stafanie Taylor 49 and Chedean Nation 37.

Anisa Mohammed picked up 3 for 40 while there were two wickets each for Karishma Ramharack and Amrita Ramtahal claimed two apiece.

Jamaica will next be in action on Wednesday against Guyana at St. Paul’s also in Basseterre.

The Guyanese crashed to an 11 run defeat to Barbados at Conaree today.

Barbados made 183 for 5 in their 50 overs then dismissed Guyana for 172 in 47.4 overs

At St. Paul’s the Windward Islands beat the Leeward Islands by 8 wickets. The Leewards were blown away for 93 in 28 overs before the Windwards raced to 94/2 in 14 overs.
