A Jamaican teacher has launched an online certificate program offering affordable, college-level training courses in response to a growing skills gap in the labor market.

The Early College Summer series, offered by New York-based IWIN Online LLC, is now accepting enrollment for two certificate programs – Global Communication and Design Essentials. Through six intensive workshops, participants will engage in strategic thinking, communication, and adaptability, which are among the top in-demand skills identified in the 2023 Wiley Closing the Gap Skills Report.

“Through these workshops, we aim to provide low-cost, international education for persons seeking to acquire these transferable skills that have become necessary in the era of globalization,” said IWIN Online founder, Denise Wiley. “Anyone who has an interest in international affairs or has plans to work or study internationally would benefit from these workshops.”

Based in the United States and Canada, the workshop facilitators are subject matter experts with more than 30 years of combined experience. Through interactive and collaborative activities, participants will gain a firm foundation as they prepare to enter the workforce, change careers, or get ready for the intellectual challenges of higher education.

“Industry experts have also been invited to share insights and answer questions to give workshop attendees a first-hand multi-cultural experience,” said Wiley, who has taught English as a foreign language in Tokyo, Japan and New York, USA.

The online program will be conducted weekly in July and August, live via Zoom. Participants may earn a certificate in Global Communication or Design Essentials after completing workshops on intercultural communication, foreign policy, graphic design, and web development. There are no formal prerequisites, however native or advanced English language skills and basic computer knowledge are highly recommended.

Enrollment is open to participants from around the world at www.iwinnovation.com. Individuals from underserved communities are encouraged to apply for a tuition waver.
