Jamaican tennis umpire Casserly hits milestone at US tournament

Jamaican International Tennis Federation (ITF) White Badge umpire Simon Casserly celebrated a major career achievement recently, officiating his 500th professional match at the UTR Manchester Women’s event held at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club.

The milestone match featured eventual champion Olyvia Lincer of Poland against American Georgia Kulevich, with Lincer securing a straight-sets victory (6-3, 6-3).

For Casserly, the occasion marked not just another assignment but a testament to his dedication and expertise in the sport.

With a career spanning multiple countries, Casserly has officiated at high-profile tournaments across the globe, including stops in Brazil, Peru, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and the Cayman Islands.

He has also been a key official at the Pan American Games, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable and respected figure in international tennis.

Reflecting on his achievement, Casserly was overjoyed that he could still be officiating at a high level.

“Reaching 500 professional matches is significant to me, because it showcases my dedication and passion for a sport that has served me well. It demonstrates that I have the expertise and consistency to be invited to work at international, high-level tournaments.”

He added, “It’s been a very rewarding experience, because I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world, meet great people, and develop a skill. It has also been an honour to represent Jamaica on the world stage, and I have always endeavoured to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, so that I could be a good ambassador.”
