Jason Westby Jailed for Crack Possession and Resisting Arrest

A Belize City man will spend the next two months behind bars after pleading guilty to drug possession and resisting arrest. Forty-year-old Jason Westby, a resident of the George Price Highway, was sentenced to two months in prison after being busted with 0.8 grams of crack cocaine. Westby appeared before Magistrate Ludlow Black today and pleaded guilty to both possession of a controlled drug and resisting arrest. Westby asked the court for a fine, but the magistrate noted his extensive criminal history, which includes four prior drug possession convictions. Due to this pattern of behavior, the magistrate decided against a fine, instead imposing a two-month custodial sentence. For the resisting arrest charge, Westby was given a non-custodial fine of $200, which he must pay by November 3 or face two additional months in prison. His arrest occurred on Friday, August 1, on Mapp Street in Belize City.
