Javon East Gets First Reggae Boyz Call Up in Almost 4 Years

Former Portmore United striker Javon East has received his first Jamaica national senior team call up in nearly four years.

The 30-year-old has been named in a 21 member squad for the Unity Cup football tournament in England next week.

East, who plies his trade for Hapoel Haifa in Israel, last played for the national team at the back end of Theodore Whitemore’s last stint as national coach.

Also named in the squad are two of the hottest players in the Wray and Nephew/Jamaica Premier League; Dwayne Atkinson of champions Cavalier and Warner Brown of Arnett Gardens.

The rest of the squad is Shaquan Davis, Benjamin Williams, Tafari Chambers, Richard King, Mason Holgate, Dexter Lembikisa, Greg Leigh, Amari Bell, Kyle Ming, Stephen Young, Issac Hayden, Kasey Palmer, Brandon Cover, Jon Russell, Daniel Green, Renaldo Cephas, Kaheim Dixon and Rumarn Burrell.

Two more players will be added before the squad departs on Saturday for the tournament which starts on May 27.

Jamaica will open their campaign against Trinidad and Tobago at Brentford’s Gtech Stadium. Ghana and Nigeria are the other two countries vying for the Afro- Caribbean Trophy.
