Jerdene Jorgenson to Stand Trial in 2027 for David Phillips Murder

Jerdene Eton Jorgenson is scheduled to stand trial on January 25, 2027, for the murder of David Anthony Phillips, known as “Goofy.” Phillips was shot and killed on September 28, 2023. A pretrial hearing is set for December 1 before High Court Justice Candace Nanton.

At Friday’s hearing, Jorgenson’s attorney, Ronnel Gonzalez, asked the court to consider bail. Justice Nanton directed him to file a formal application and notify the prosecution. A date for that hearing will then be set. Jorgenson remains in custody. The prosecution told the court it intends to submit an additional witness statement and will not rely on an interview Jorgenson allegedly gave police. The judge also sought clarity on the forensic evidence and raised concerns that the written postmortem report was difficult to read. The prosecution said it intends to call the doctor to testify. Justice Nanton ordered the prosecution to file its additional evidence by October 29.  Jorgenson was initially charged alongside Lloyd Anthony Burgess. The murder charge against Burgess was withdrawn in April 2024 on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
