New Liverpool signing Jeremie Frimpong says it was a “no-brainer” to join the Reds.

The 24-year-old arrives after spending four and a half years with Bayer Leverkusen, where he made 190 appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 44 assists.

He was part of the Leverkusen side that made history last term by winning the Bundesliga and German Cup with a record 51-match unbeaten run that ended in the Europa League final.

Frimpong’s arrival is timely following confirmation on Friday a deal had been reached with Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave his contract early.

“It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,” Frimpong told club media.

“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, can celebrate together, get everything together.

“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you, guys, for accepting me and I won’t let you down. I’ll give you the energy you guys want.”

Frimpong added: “I spoke to the manager [Arne Slot] a few times.

“When a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I’ve had good conversations with him.

“Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like: ‘He’s the best coach I’ve ever had.’

“Now he’s going to be my coach, so I’m excited for that.”
