Former Manchester High School coach, Jerry Holness, has been appointed head coach of India’s women’s 400 metres and 400 metres hurdles teams.

The appointment by the Athletics Federation of India takes effect on Monday, February 17 with the much travelled coach arriving at the National College of Physical Education in Kerala where Indian women’s 400m and 400m hurdles teams are based.

Holness’ contract with the Indian Federation will run for an initial one year and can be extended after an evaluation of his performance.

The 65-year-old Holness replaces Stashuk Valerii whose contract was not renewed following the team’s dismal showing in the French capital.

Holness who is an accredited World Athletics Level Five coach, will prepare the Indian teams for important assignments this year including the Asian Championships, the World Relays in China and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan.

Holness has also worked in the United Arab Emirates and the Cayman Islands.
