The cause of an explosion is being investigated in San Pedro Town after a jet ski blew up mid-lagoon. On Saturday morning at around ten thirty, 26-year-old, Jeffery Molina took the jet ski to get refueled in the San Mateo area near the Gas and Go Fuel Station; shortly after the explosion occurred. Police arrived at the scene and found that Molina had just left the gas station when the vessel exploded, flinging him into the lagoon. According to one pump attendant, the jet ski did not start up on the first try, but upon the second swing of the ignition, the explosion occurred. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith says that the fire was extinguished by fire personnel while Molina had been treated for bruises and abrasions to the left foot.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “On Saturday 14 June at approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to reports of an explosion in the lagoon by Gas and Go Gas Station in San Mateo area, San Pedro. The initial investigation revealed that the operator of the jet ski, Jeffrey Molina, had just refueled the jet ski at the gas station and shortly thereafter there was an explosion which caused him to be flung into the water. The jet ski then drifted a bit and subsequently caught fire. Fire personnel were summoned to the scene.”
The vessel is valued at eight thousand dollars and was the property of San Pedro Water Sport Jet Ski Company.
