JetBlue Permanently Ends Direct New York to Belize Flights

Belize’s only direct air connection to New York is coming to an end, after airline company JetBlue announced that it is permanently discontinuing its Belize route as part of broader restructuring efforts tied to ongoing financial pressures. The airline confirmed on May 21 that flights 2781 and 2784, which operated direct service between the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and the Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize, will no longer continue after nearly three years of operations. The flights had serviced the route three times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.  JetBlue’s withdrawal comes as the carrier continues implementing its “JetForward” transformation program, an initiative launched to restore financial stability following significant losses and operational pressures that intensified after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The restructuring effort has reportedly involved route adjustments, cost-cutting measures, and network evaluations across several markets.  The development follows the earlier departure of Spirit Airlines from Belize, after that carrier discontinued its operations to the country less than a year after launching service. With JetBlue’s exit, travelers heading to New York will now likely be forced to rely on connecting flights through other U.S. hubs.  Up to news time, there had been no official announcement regarding whether another carrier may seek to fill the direct Belize-to-New York route in the near future.
