THIS YEAR’S staging of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Preparatory Schools Championships has received a major boost with sponsorships in excess of $6 million from GK General Insurance, GK Mutual Funds, and Little Caesars.
During a press launch yesterday at the Sts Peter and Paul Prep School, JISA announced they were receiving a sponsorship of $4 million from title sponsors GK General Insurance and GK Mutual Funds.
In addition, they also announced a sponsorship valued at $2.5 million from gold sponsor, Little Caesars.
Speaking at the launch, JISA’s sports chair, Wayne Robinson, welcomed the sponsorships, highlighting their importance in providing a platform for Jamaica’s next generation of athletes.
“This is an investment in the national development of the youth in this country,” Robinson said.
“It is so serious that they get a chance to go into the stadium and run. To get a chance to run in front of an audience – and a television audience included – and run. They get a chance to win, they get a chance to lose and they get a chance, most importantly, to participate.”
Daniel Thompson, general manager of GK Mutual Funds, said this sponsorship underscores the GraceKennedy Group’s commitment to invest in Jamaica’s sporting future.
“This is very important for us because being a part of the wider GraceKennedy Group, we have always been close to youth athletics in Jamaica,” Thompson said.
“GraceKennedy has sponsored the big Champs – the Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships – for years now, so to put ourselves in another stage of the development of the youth in Jamaica is very crucial for us. It is something that we take great pleasure and pride in.”
This will be GK’s second year as the title sponsor for the annual prep school championships and Thompson said it could be the start of a longstanding partnership.
“This is our second consecutive year as the title sponsor and, like I said, being close to youth athletics is a part of GraceKennedy’s DNA and is a responsibility that we take seriously,” he explained.
“As soon as I get back to the office, we will start looking at what the future looks like for us at GK General Insurance and GK Mutual Funds and the JISA Prep Schools Championships.”
The championships are set to be held on June 12 through to June 14 at the National Stadium.
