Chairman of the JLP’s Manifesto Committee, Kamina Johnson-Smith, says the party’s child care grant proposal is aimed at minimizing constraints faced by mothers trying to enter the work force.

She was speaking on Nationwide This Morning on Monday.

In its 2025 manifesto dubbed, ‘I Choose Jamaica, the Next Chapter’, the JLP pledged to introduce the Caring for Her Independence Learning and Development Care Grant.

The grant will allow women with children born since the start of 2022, and who enrol in a HEART programme, to receive a monthly child care grant for the duration of the programme.

The party has not revealed the value of the grant.

But Mrs. Johnson-Smith says the grant will be twinned with the JLP’s commitment to also establish 28 brain builder centres islandwide.

She says the grant will not affect any current benefits offered by the government to mothers enrolled at HEART.
