JLP Campaign Spokesperson, Kamina Johnson-Smith, says the purported gains from the PNP’s housing proposals are either redundant or of little real-world value to the Jamaican people.
Johnson-Smith says the PNP promise to exempt the price of land from the development cost of housing will result in very little reduction in housing costs.
She was addressing a media briefing on Wednesday.
The PNP has announced a raft of measures geared towards making housing more accessible to Jamaicans, particularly young Jamaicans.
This includes a half-a-million-dollar grant for Jamaicans under the age of 35 buying their first home.
However, Johnson-Smith says the PNP’s proposals ignore the key problem in Jamaica of housing availability.
