JLP Spokesman Criticises PNP’s Change on Removal of AudG from IC

Government senator, Marlon Morgan, is criticising the opposition People’s National Party. PNP, for changing its tune on the appropriateness of the auditor general sitting on the board of the Integrity Commission.

In a statement on Friday, Morgan compared the PNP’s vote against the recommendation by the Joint Select Committee reviewing the Integrity Commission Act, with its position on the subject six years go.

The committee on Wednesday voted to restore unquestionable independence to the Auditor General’s Department by removing the office holder as a Commissioner of the Integrity Commission.

Opposition members voted against the move.

Morgan says the about-face confirms the propensity of the PNP to flip-flop, and unveils opportunistic tendencies.

Senator Morgan says it also notes that when the PNP was lobbying for the removal of the Auditor General a a commissioner, civil society did not describe the lobbying as a QUOTE: “step towards tyranny” END QUOTE.
