President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, says head of the Commonwealth Games Federation, CGF, Chris Jenkins’ suggestion to have multiple host cities for future games is the way forward.
Samuda says having multiple host cities and indoor ceremonies could make the Games more affordable.
Australian state Victoria pulled out of hosting the 2026 Games due to financial constraints, while Canadian province Alberta withdrew its interest for 2030.
However, Glasgow has stepped in to put on a streamlined but “exciting” Games in 2026 and Jenkins is about to invite expressions of interest from nations to host the next three events from 2030 to 2038.
Samuda says the benefits of the multiple host cities formula far outweighs the risks.
