Foreign affairs minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, is pushing back against comments from the opposition, suggesting the country’s international reputation is at risk due to recent government actions.
According to Minister Johnson Smith, it’s the utterances of the People’s National Party, PNP, that are the real danger.
The minister’s comments come in response to criticisms by the Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Angela Brown Burke.
Dr. Brown Burke suggested the government ran the risk of getting Jamaica blacklisted by the global anti-corruption and anti-money laundering watchdog, the Financial Action Task Force, FATF.
This is due to the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division among other things.
Minister Johnson Smith says the PNP is engaging in unpatriotic behaviour for political gain.
