JPAC Calls for Review of Government’s Smart Stream Financial System

The Joint Public Accounts Committee, JPAC, is calling for a review of the government’s Smart Stream financial system as it is moving to strengthen oversight of how public funds are managed. The request was made during JPAC’s eighth meeting of the 14th Parliamentary Session, held yesterday at the National Assembly Building in Belmopan. (JPAC 8^TH MEETING VO STARTS) The Committee wants the Auditor General to conduct a full assessment of Smart Stream to determine its effectiveness, reliability, security, and whether it continues to meet public financial management requirements. During the meeting, JPAC also agreed to have its members participate in a three-day capacity-building programme from July 27th to the 29th. The training will be facilitated by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, with technical support from the Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation. The programme is expected to strengthen the Committee’s ability to review audit reports, conduct public hearings, and carry out its oversight responsibilities. JPAC says the move forms part of its continued efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the management of taxpayer funds.
