President of the Jamaica Progressive Party, JPP, Gilbert Alexander Edwards says he plans to use his personal wealth to fund his party’s manifesto proposals.
The JPP is promising to pursue an ambitious US$2 trillion agenda to transform the country in 50 years. The manifesto proposes to pay off the national debt, abolish income tax and pay off all student loans.
Edwards appeared on Nationwide This Morning on Wednesday.
According to Edwards, he has been investing in different financial instruments over several years.
The JPP intends to field 63 candidates. It so far has 62 caretakers. The party says it is in the process of settling its outstanding standard bearer for Central Manchester.
Meanwhile, Edwards says he’s is in the process of renouncing his US citizenship.
Based on the Jamaican Constitution, anyone who holds dual citizenship outside of the British Commonwealth is ineligible to run for political office in Jamaica.
