UK-based reggae artiste Kananjah is generating attention with his latest single ' What a Pity' featuring Switzerland-based hip hop artiste Dely Denjah.
The song seeks to capture a sense of urgency regarding the growing concerns many people in Europe have about rising global tensions in a nuclear world and government accountability.
"The feedback is positive with most people saying they like how I chop up the rhythm," Kananjah said, laughing.
"On What a Pity, I'm just expressing some deep thoughts about the current state of the world and the impact of leadership on society, in a way to inspire awareness and action among listeners," Kananjah reasoned.
A Rastafarian, Kananjah opined that the song's 'sad, prophetic message' is pointing to the eventual demise of an unjust system.
"I wrote this with Dely Denjah with the hope that those who are able to influence the situation would make a positive change for the greater good of humanity. People are scared in Europe and Asia now because the looming threats of World War III are real now. Plus with the mismanagement by governments in the western world who are out of touch with the people that they're supposed to care about, it's a really scary situation," he said.
Born in Spanish Town, St Catherine, Kananjah fell in love with music at an early age. In 1996, he migrated to England and continued to hone his craft, recording his first official single Natural And Simple in 2006.
Dely Denjah is a Swiss and Zimbabwean hip hop artiste who uses powerful lyrics that embody authenticity and rebellion. Dely Denjah represents the working class and minorities where he comes from, and uses his music as a means of sharing his experiences and bringing well-being to his listeners.
Kananjah's previous singles include Invasion, Set It, Purify and Defiance, all of which were released on his own Abba-Taqel label.
