Kingston College and Calabar produced stunning performances to win Championship of Americas title on day two of the 129th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia today.
KC clocked 3: 05.93 seconds to capture the 4x400m crown in what was the second fastest time done by a high school in the event at Penns only behind the 3:03.79 seconds done by Calabar in 2018.
It was also KC’s fourth straight title, equalling the record set by Manual of Brooklyn who also won fourth straight between 1907 and 1910.
Calabar was third in 3:06.52 seconds, Excelsior fourth 3.07.98 and Jamaica College fifth 3.08.06 seconds….Steths were disqualified.
Calabar in the meantime blasted their way to the 4x100m title in 39.79 seconds, the 8th fastest time ever in the event at the meet, it was also the ninth time the Red Hills Road based school was winning the event.
Kingston College was third in 40.16 seconds and dethroned champions Excelsior fourth in 40.36
And for the second straight year, the Championship of Americas 4x800m relay title will remain in the United States.
In the final Kingston College was the best placed Jamaican school with a sixth place finish with Calabar and Edwin Allen the other Jamaican schools in the final falling further down the finish.
Meanwhile Defending champions Hydel High clocked the fastest time in the Championship of Americas 4×100 girls qualifiers in the morning session.
The Ferry based school clocked 44.54 seconds, the quickest time going into Saturday afternoon’s final where four other Jamaican schools also secured their spots.
Edwin Allen was second fastest with 44.64 seconds followed by Wolmers 45.50 seconds, Holmwood Tech 46 seconds flat and St. Mary High 46.81 seconds
Three Jamaicans schools are in the Championship of Americas girls 4×800 finals following this morning’s heats.
Alphansus Davis was the quickest in 8: 54.73 seconds and they were ahead Holmwood who won their heat in 9:01.58 seconds while Edwin Allen comes next with 9: 04.26 seconds
