After several months without a permanent Chief Executive Officer, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has appointed Sharine Reyes as its new CEO. Reyes takes over leadership of the institution after the post remained vacant since October, when the contract of former CEO Chandra Nisbet-Cansino came to an end. Reyes is no stranger to the hospital’s administration. She has been serving as Financial Director at KHMH and emerged as the successful candidate following a competitive interview process conducted by the hospital’s board earlier this year. Reports indicate that several persons were shortlisted and interviewed for the job before a final decision was made. Her appointment brings an end to a transition period at Belize’s premier public healthcare institution. Since the departure of the former CEO, the hospital has been operating under an interim administrative structure while the Board of Directors searched for a replacement. The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital remains a critical part of Belize’s healthcare system. KHMH functions as the national referral center and is widely regarded as the country’s largest public hospital and only tertiary-level referral hospital, handling some of the most serious and specialized medical cases from across the country.
