American Noah Lyles may be heading to Paris 2024 as the 100-metres reigning world champion, but he’s not touching down in the French capital as the favourite.
Lyles ran a personal best of 9.81 seconds at the London Diamond League and with two Olympic Games already under his belt, the 27 year-old will be looking to add to his 200-metres Olympic bronze from Tokyo.
But despite his achievements, the Florida born sprinter isn’t considered the 100-metres favourite for Paris 2024.
Instead, pundits have dubbed Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson as the favourite for the men’s 100-metres title.
Thompson is yet to lose a 100-metres race this year and at the National Championships in June, he ran a personal best 9.77 seconds – that’s 0.04 seconds quicker than Lyles’.
Olympian Trevor TC Campbell and national coach, Michael Carr are expecting something special from Thompson at the Paris Olympics.
Campbell says Thompson has been showing signs of greatness from early in the season.
