La Ruta Maya Featured on Belize’s New Definitive Postage Stamps

La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge has secured a lasting place in Belize’s postal history, with an image from the iconic canoe race featured in the country’s new collection of definitive stamps for the 2026-to-2030 period.  The collection was unveiled last Friday by the Belize Postal Service and celebrates the people, traditions, sporting events and historic moments that have helped shape Belize’s national identity. Postmaster General Dr. Marsha Price says the images were selected by a special committee to ensure that every stamp tells a distinctly Belizean story.

Beyond La Ruta Maya, the collection features Wesley College students marching past the former Paslow Building on the forty-cent stamp. The building once housed the post office before it was destroyed by fire. The fifty-cent stamp captures the colourful sawdust carpets created in Benque Viejo del Carmen as part of the community’s Easter traditions.  The seventy-five-cent denomination features the past four leaders of the People’s United Party, while the eighty-cent stamp carries a historic photograph from Belize’s first cycling classic.

Students from Evershine Primary School visiting the Dangriga Post Office during Child Stimulation Month are featured on the one-dollar stamp. The one-dollar-and-fifty-cent stamp celebrates Pan Yaad, a longstanding fixture on the September Celebrations calendar.

Agriculture is highlighted on the two-dollar stamp with an image from the National Agriculture and Trade Show, while the two-dollar-and-fifty-cent denomination recognizes Belizean women in volleyball.  Minister of Public Utilities and Logistics Michel Chebat says the stamps go beyond their postal function, preserving important pieces of Belize’s history and carrying the country’s story wherever they travel.

At the top of the collection, the ten-dollar stamp honours the Queen of the Bay pageant, another enduring feature of Belize’s September Celebrations. Reigning Queen of the Bay Samantha Ramirez says it is an honour to see the historic pageant represented in the national collection.

The new definitive stamps will remain in circulation from 2026 through 2030.
