A 66-year-old construction worker from Ladyville, Michael Wells, also known as “Jew,” has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred in the Pound Yard area of Belize City on Sunday. Wells appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate today, where he was formally charged with wounding upon 30-year-old Peter Lopez, a conductor of Curl Thompson Street. Wells pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. As part of his bail conditions, Wells is not to interfere with the virtual complainant and must remain at least 25 feet away from Lopez. His next court appearance has been scheduled for January 5, 2026. Police reports indicate that the incident unfolded at around two thirty on Sunday near Mila’s Fruit Shop in the Pound Yard area. Investigations reveal that Wells was purchasing items at Reza Store on Cemetery Road when Lopez allegedly approached him from behind with a piece of board. In response, Wells reportedly drew a knife from his bag and swung it at Lopez, inflicting injuries. A six-inch knife with a black handle was recovered from the scene by police technicians. Lopez was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
